Usually, no. Your Google calendar, your email list and the way people pay you can stay right where they are. A good new website connects to them, so your customers find everything in one place and your routine stays the same.
I get asked some version of this a lot, and I love it, because it tells me how much you've already built. You have a calendar that works, an email list you've grown one person at a time, a way of getting paid that your regulars are used to. The last thing you want is someone telling you to throw all of that out and learn five new things.
The fear that keeps the website on next month's list
A lot of the reason the website keeps getting pushed to next month is a quiet worry you may never have said out loud: that fixing it means starting your whole business over. New apps, new passwords, new habits, and a week where nothing works and customers can't find you.
That worry makes complete sense. You've probably seen a friend switch everything at once and spend a month untangling it. So you leave the old site alone, even though you know it doesn't look as good as the work you actually do.
You get to keep what's working. A new website just gives the business you already run a better way to be found.
What can usually stay exactly where it is
Most of the apps the women I work with already use were made to plug into a website. A few common ones:
- Your Google calendar. If you already let people book time through Google Calendar, Google's own help page on sharing your appointment schedule explains that a booking page can be shared as a link on your website or placed right on the page itself. Your customers pick a time on your site, and it lands on the same calendar on your phone that you check every morning.
- Your email list. If you send a newsletter through Kit, Kit's form embedding basics page explains how its signup forms go onto your own website. New subscribers keep flowing into the list you already have, and you keep writing to them the way you always have.
- The way people pay you. Your regulars can keep paying you the way they always have. If you'd like new customers to be able to pay or put down a deposit right on your website, that's something I add alongside what you already do, so nobody has to change how they pay you overnight.
Every setup is a little different, and once in a while an older app really can't connect. When that happens, I'll tell you plainly, walk you through your choices, and help you pick the one that asks the least of you.
What actually changes for you
Honestly, very little on your side. The calendar on your phone is still your calendar. The email list is still your list. What changes is what your customers see. Instead of an old page, a booking link in one place and a signup form in another, they find one website that looks like you, tells them what you do, and lets them book, sign up or reach you without hunting.
When I build a website, I start by asking what you already use and what you like about it. Then I build around how you work, and I connect what you have, so on launch day your morning routine looks the same and your customers just have a much nicer front door.
You also own the website I build for you, every bit of it, so it's yours to keep no matter what.
Who keeps the pieces talking to each other
Apps update themselves all the time, and every so often an update quietly breaks the connection between your website and something it relies on. Keeping an eye on that is a chore, and you shouldn't have to.
That's what Website Care is for. For $50 a month, I keep your site hosted, secure and backed up, keep the spam out of your forms, make small changes when you need them, and check in with you every quarter. If your booking link stops working or your signup form goes quiet, it's mine to notice and mine to fix. You send me a message, and it's done.
You built something good, and it deserves to look that way
You're great at what you do, and the tools you picked are part of how you've made it work. You don't have to give any of that up, and you don't have to learn anything new to finally have a website that matches the business you already run.
If you're in Murfreesboro, Smyrna or anywhere in Rutherford County and you'd like to know where your website stands today, my free Website Check is a good place to start. It's seven yes or no questions and about two minutes on your phone.
