A social media marketer

I searched her business name in quotes, and her website was not on the page.

A Middle Tennessee social media marketer had a well-built website that search engines could read almost nothing on. Searching her exact business name in quotes did not return her site at all. The audit found no page descriptions, no share tags, no schema and no analytics anywhere on it, and every one of those is an edit to pages she already had.

The front of the site was fine. The half nobody looks at was empty.

Her website looked good and read well. The parts a person sees had been built properly, and the parts only a search engine reads had never been filled in at all.

No page had a description written for it. There were no share tags anywhere, which is why sending her link in a message produced a grey box instead of a preview. There was no schema telling a search engine what kind of business this even is, and there was no analytics of any kind, so nobody had ever been able to see what was happening.

Her own name in quotation marks did not find her

The test that made it concrete: her exact business name, in quotes, plus what she does. Her website did not come back first, and it did not come back on the page.

A company in another country with almost the same name held those results instead. She was doing everything right in public and losing to a name collision nobody had ever told her about.

The decision that shaped it

The fix was eight things, and none of them was a new website.

The easy sell here is a rebuild. Her site did not need one. It needed the specific work nobody had done, in the order that would move it fastest.

So what she got was the finding, then eight steps ranked by what would help soonest, with the page titles and descriptions already written out for her to paste in. Real copy, rather than instructions to go and write copy.

It was built as a page in her own brand, her fonts and her colours, so reading it felt like something made for her rather than a report about her.

What she was handed

What is already solid
The audit says out loud what is working before it says anything else, because a list of only problems is not an honest picture of her site.
The search finding, in plain words
What happens when someone looks for her by name, what is holding those results, and what that costs her.
Eight steps, in priority order
Ranked by what moves the needle soonest, so she can stop at any point and still have gotten the valuable part.
The copy already written
A title and a description drafted for every page on her site, ready to paste. The part everyone puts off is the part that was done for her.

She can hand this to anyone and it gets done right

The guide is hers. She can work through it herself, or hand the whole thing to whoever maintains her site, and the instructions do not depend on her explaining anything.

A before and after report followed it, so the change is something she can see rather than something she has to take on faith.

Why does my website not show up when I search my own business name?

Usually one of two things, and often both. Either the pages have nothing written for a search engine to read, meaning no page descriptions, no schema and no share tags, or another business holds the name and has more signals behind it.

Both are fixable without rebuilding the site. Descriptions and schema are edits to pages you already have.

A name collision is beaten with location signals, a claimed business profile and reviews, which all happen away from the website itself.

She paid once, and the code is hers.

It is an asset her business holds, the same way it holds a van or a building. Nobody can end it by raising a price or going out of business, and that is the whole point of building it this way.
